The 28th edition of the yearly CWG auction hosted on Saturday 6 September 2012 at the Spier Convention Center saw a new record for total sales. Here’s some of the stats from the event:
Total Sales – R5 739 000 (excl VAT) – up from the 2011 total of R5 286 700
Average Case price – R2281 per 6 bottle case – up from the 2011 average price of R1793 per 6 bottle case
The line up included 52 wines – 38 red, 10 white, 2 MCC, 1 dessert and 1 port
Alan Pick was the biggest buyer for the 11th year in a row with a total purchase of R1 017 400
The 5 highest average prices achieved for reds were:
- Kanonkop CWG Paul Sauer 2007 – R3760
- Rust & Vrede CWG Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 – R3548
- Kanonkop CWG Paul Sauer 2009 – R3485
- Hartenberg CWG Shiraz 2009 – R3324
- Kanonkop CWG Pinotage 2010 – R3294
The 3 highest average prices achieved for whites were:
- Jordan CWG Chardonnay 2010 – R2353
- Chamonix CWG Chardonnay 2011 – R2044
- Cape Point Vineyards CWG Reserve White 2011 – R2014
The 18 litre charity wine was auctioned off for a record R50 000. It comprises a red blend from wine of all 45 members.
All in all a fantastic year for the Guild.
